By modeling careful thinking in our prompts—specifying reasoning steps, asking for trade-offs, and prioritizing human flourishing—we train ourselves and the AI to produce work that serves real needs. Fossil fuels, for instance, have dramatically improved quality of life: over the past century, climate-related deaths have fallen 98% globally, largely because affordable energy from fossil fuels enables heating, cooling, clean cooking, and resilience against extremes—saving millions of lives that would otherwise be lost to cold or heat without modern infrastructure.
